Nature
Colorless transparent hexagonal flake crystals. Industrial products contain impurities such as iron, free chlorine, and free aluminum and are light yellow, yellow or light gray, with a strong smell of hydrochloric acid. d 2.44. Melting point 190 ~ 194ºC, sublimation when heated about 183ºC. Soluble in water, while emitting a lot of heat. Soluble in ethanol, ether, carbon tetrachloride and other organic solvents, insoluble in benzene. It can form complex with many inorganic and organic compounds. Anhydrous aluminum chloride has a strong water absorption, and reacts with water or steam to release heat and produce toxic corrosive gases. Corrosive to many metals especially in the presence of moist air.
Use
It is a catalyst for organic synthesis. Used in synthetic resin, synthetic rubber, oil cracking, synthetic dye, synthetic detergent, medicine, spices, pesticides and so on. It is also used for the production of various aluminum organic compounds, metal refining and lubricating oil treatment.
