A colorless, clear liquid whose vapor and air can form an explosive mixture that produces a blue flame when burned. Critical temperature 240.0ºC; Critical pressure 78.5 ATM. It can be miscible with water, ethanol, ether, benzene, ketone and other organic solvents. Its vapor and air form an explosive mixture, which causes combustion and explosion in case of open fire and high heat energy. Can react strongly with oxidizing agents. In case of high heat, the pressure inside the container increases, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion. No flame when burning. It builds up static electricity and ignites its vapor.

The water content of industrial methanol was reduced to 0.01% by distillation. The acetone can be removed by treatment with sodium hypoiodate. Purified methanol was obtained by distillation.
