Overview 1, 4-dioxane is a six-membered heterocyclic compound containing two oxygen heteroatoms, which is colorless and flammable liquid with a slight ether-like odor. Sensitive to light. Vapor readily absorbs oxygen in the air to form explosive peroxides. The explosion limit is 1.97%-22.5%(volume), which should be treated with reducing agent during distillation. Melting point 11.8ºC, boiling point 101ºCChemicalbook(750 mm Hg), relative density 1.0337(20/4ºC). Soluble in water and ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. It can form an azeotrope with water (18.6% water content), and its boiling point is 87.8ºC. The reaction with tetranitromethane is bright yellow. Trace amounts of 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol (BHT) are often added to daily purchases as a stabilizer.
