Colorless transparent liquid. Aromatic ketone odor. It can be miscible with ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, etc., soluble in water (1-91%). Its vapor and air form an explosive mixture, which causes combustion and explosion in case of open fire and high heat energy. Can react strongly with oxidizing agents. In case of high heat, the pressure inside the container increases, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion. Dissolve certain plastics, resins and rubbers.
Use
It is an effective separation agent for some inorganic salts, separating plutonium from uranium, niobium from tantalum, and zirconium from hafnium. It can also be used as an anticoagulant and diluent for vinyl resins. It is an excellent medium boiling solvent. It is used as a mineral dressing agent, solvent for oil dewaxing, color film forming agent, and solvent for tetracycline, pyrethroid and DDT. It is also used in the organic synthesis industry.
